Letter to Council from Anne and Bill Herman

Please forward this to Mayor and Council.

Here are a few of our concerns following the November 19th, 2012 public hearing:

The process of “sign-up to speak” at 4:30 was flawed and orchestrated.  It was plainly unfair.  By the time many of us arrived, a few representatives had pages of typewritten names which they had transferred onto the sign-up sheets.  It would have been too late in the evening for us to speak in opposition.  We feel cheated.

Many speakers did not give their home addresses.

Last Monday public hearing was a wake-up-call to all of us – it shows how a simple, democratic process can be manipulated.

The public hearing also brought into question our little city’s goal: Not to compromise neighbourhood character……particularly a life-saving neighbourhood.

WAS THERE ANY CREDENCE AND RESPECT GIVEN TO TWO THOUSAND PETITION SIGNATURES SHOWING OVERWHELMING COMMUNITY OPPOSITION ?

Reporting of the public hearing gave much mention of 93 speakers – 4 to 1 in support of the Onni project. What about 1,005 plus 995 petition signatures “opposed”?

Here is a little FACT of big interest:  quoted in May 2012 BC BUSINESS magazine:              POPULATION DENSITY
Vancouver    5039.0
CNV            3812.2   2nd highest of 14 cities
DNV              513.9   ranks 12th
W.Van           483.5   is 13th
OUR LITTLE 4.15 SQ MILE CITY is too often and too rapidly straying from our Official Community Plan – plain and simple.

We, the majority who live here, love our community – please keep that in mind.   We depend on your good judgement.
