We previously posted this petition in May and now repost courtesy of City Hall Watch, with an update of Provincial plans to change election rules. We suggest that the rules proposed do not go far enough and the recommendations of their task force should be implemented, including recommendations regarding corporate and union donations.
The B.C. provincial government stated in a news release August 21, 2013, its intentions to move ahead with change to local government election rules. CityHallWatch immediately wrote to Minister Coralee Oakes, Minister of Community, Sport and Cultural Development to encourage this effort and make her aware of the CityHallWatch “Get Big Money out of Civic Politics!” Petition for Municipal Election Campaign Finance Reform, which currently has over 1,000 signatures.
